Plus there is a visual novel series thrown in as well. Most of the history though is irrelevant to those of us in the West as Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code will more than likely be your first taste of the series.
What Is It?
Well, Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code is a one on one fighting game. It features some fantastic 2D sprites and detailed background and this version here features over 30 characters for you to play as.
How Does It Play?
Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code makes use of four buttons. You have your weak, medium and strong attacks and you also have a defense button as well. The gameplay is very similar to Street Fighter. So if you know how to do moves like a Fireball with Ken or Blanka’s Cannonball you will figure this out pretty quickly. Each character has different fighting styles for you to use and testing these out is a lot of fun. You also have a meter on the bottom of the screen which works in the same way as the super meters do in Street Fighter. Once it is filled you can then unleash a more devastating attack on your opponent. I actually really liked the gameplay of Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code it is very fast paced and I found myself having a lot of fun with it.
What Is Going On Here?
There is a main story that you can play through where you pick one of the characters and then fight eight opponents. Think of this as your standard arcade mode where each character has their own motivations and ending. The problem with this is that I had no idea what was going on here, apparently there is a visual novel that sets this game up very well. I think they could have had a little backstory in here so those who are new to the series could feel more connected to the characters.As well as this mode you can also play a local versus mode with a friend which is always a lot of fun. There is a training mode which is great for testing out new characters. Then we have online.I found the online mode to be a bit of a mixed bag. I had a really hard time finding other players in my area, but I did get into a game easily when I expanded my search. The problem was that the latency was not exactly great in some matches.
I know that Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code has one of the weirdest sounding names in the history of gaming. However, if you are a fighting game fan I really do think that you will have a lot of fun with it. The gameplay is fast, tight and easy to learn the basics of. I found the art style a lot of fun and the characters do all have an interesting look about them.
